HEALTH CENTER
Development Project No. Will Work Without the full support and backings of the People Who are you people working for and With. Before "any work started on developing the Gurje Village area Umbrella met with the people; the community leaders, the farmers, the women and the parents. From these meetings two areas presented themselves as being the two main areas of concern for the community. These are; education and health care.
Thanks to an extremely generous private donation , through our partner organisation SolHimal, work began on constructing a village Health Post which will provide primary health care for Gurje Village.
A lack of health care is not a problem for Gurje village exclusively, it is estimated that this health post will serve 3,000 people from the surrounding 9 village catchment areas . This health which will provide primary health care to 9 village catchments who would have had to otherwise travel to Kathmandu for medical attention.
The health post will be manned by a health assistant nurse, HSN, a midwife, a community motivator and will have regular visits form a qualified doctor and dentist. Umbrella have consulted with the District Health Office, DHO, at every stage of the planning and it is the intention of Umbrella to work in conjunction with national initiatives such as distribution of vaccines and vitamin.
The key to the health post's success is a solid line of referral. If there are illnesses or injuries that cannot be treated in this health post an ambulance service will be provided to bring the patients to Kathmandu. This ambulance will also serve as a mobile clinic for the surrounding communities.
Prevention I obviously better than a cure and education is the best form of prevention. The health post also includes a training hall to be used to educate the community on various health care practices and issues such as first aid, hygiene, nutrition, sexual health and family planning.
