Sun Yat-Sen
Yes, after Chiang Kai-Shek , here is another memorial! That of Sun Yat-Sen. This man has a peculiarity: it is much loved in Taiwan and mainland China. Sun Yat-Sen, born in 1866 is considered the father of modern China. Indeed, he was the head of those who ended the Qing Dynasty, thus allowing the creation of the Republic China in 1912. It was the first president. It is also the founder of the Kuomintang, the political party that is still in power in Taiwan today. He died in 1925 as a result of cancer.
When he ran Taiwan, Chiang Kai-shek was referring to the political philosophy that Sun Yat-Sen was developed along three axes (nationalism, democracy and welfare of the people). But as the Nationalist Party seems clear, as the other two axes were not quite at the point (the first free elections in Taiwan have taken place in 1996!)
The memorial inaugurated in 1972. In my guide it is described as "elegant building," I can not find it very beautiful ... By cons I like the fact that this is not a monument to SYS, but also a cultural house which houses a large auditorium and exhibition halls.
You may notice that the Taiwanese have a taste for the huge statues of politicians sitting! But it does "only" 6 meters (16 to CKS)
