Weakest Interactions Between Molecules
Today we went to Danshui (Tamsui also called), a small town north of Taipei to the mouth of the Danshui River, which also passes through Taipei. Moreover dan shui means "soft" water.
One advantage of Danshui is that you can get there by subway. A disadvantage of Danshui is ... we can go there by subway. Indeed, this proximity to the city that is one of the destinations privileged residents of Taipei. And on this last day of New Year's holidays, it was crowded. Fortunately for us, the crowd focused dan s shopping center, so that what we were interested in historic buildings.
We visited the Fort San Domingo, as its name indicates it, was built by the Dutch in 1641. In fact, he replaced another fort built by the Spaniards earlier and this name has survived. Inside is an exhibition on the discovery and conquest of the world (and hence Taiwan), Marco Polo to Magellan through Zheng He. M nfortunately they wanted to say too much in too little signs, and so it has become difficult to understand.
Just next door is the old British Consulate , a very beautiful house of the nineteenth century.
The interior can be visited, but little t regret that it is a little clutter: you can see the old apartment of the consul, discover the life of George Leslie Mackay, Canadian missionary who did much to Danshui, Taiwan, and browse an exhibition Canada in general. But overall, it was very interesting.
Just beside it is a university (Aletheia University). Like the consulate, the buildings are in a style that mixes Chinese and colonial architecture, I love!
